Incident Overview
A Mahindra Thar with Haryana registration plates struck two bikers in Mumbai's Oshiwara area on Friday evening and fled the scene without stopping. The victims, identified as 24-year-old Rohan Singh and 22-year-old Amit Verma, were riding a motorcycle when the Thar hit them from behind near the Oshiwara police station junction. Both sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital; Rohan suffered a fractured leg and Amit sustained head injuries. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act.
Details of the Accident
According to eyewitnesses, the Thar was speeding and lost control before hitting the motorcycle. The driver did not stop to assist the injured and sped away towards the Western Express Highway. The incident occurred around 8:30 PM, and locals immediately alerted the police and an ambulance. The Oshiwara police have launched a search for the vehicle based on the partial registration number provided by witnesses. Senior Inspector Mahesh Patil said, "We are scanning CCTV footage from nearby cameras to trace the vehicle. The registration number is from Haryana, and we are coordinating with Haryana transport authorities to identify the owner."
Investigation and Public Appeal
Police have appealed to the public for any information about the white Thar with Haryana plates. They are also checking vehicle databases and toll plaza records. The injured are stable and under observation. This hit-and-run has raised concerns about reckless driving and the need for stricter enforcement. The police have formed a team to nab the accused at the earliest.
