HC Dismisses Anticipatory Bail Plea of Minister's Son in POCSO Case

The Telangana high court on Thursday dismissed as withdrawn the anticipatory bail petition of Union minister of state Bandi Sanjay Kumar's son, Bandi Sai Bageerath, in connection with a POCSO case registered against him at Petbasheerabad police station for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor.

Justice T Madhavi Devi passed the direction while hearing Bageerath's petition. The court also allowed Bageerath to apply for regular bail before the competent trial court.

The court's order came in view of his arrest and judicial remand on May 16, following which his counsel N Naveen Kumar approached the high court seeking to withdraw the bail petition. Since he was already in judicial remand, the bail petition became infructuous, Naveen Kumar said.

Taking note of the submissions and the judicial remand details, the judge allowed the petition to be withdrawn.

Justice Madhavi Devi heard Bageerath at length on May 14 and 15 and, while refusing any interim protection, reserved the matter for orders to May 21. However, Bageerath was arrested and sent to judicial remand.

This case has drawn significant attention due to the involvement of a Union minister's son. The legal proceedings are ongoing, with the trial court now set to handle the regular bail application.
