Kerala High Court Intervenes in Sabarimala Gold Heist Probe, Stays Controversial Bail Remarks
In a significant development that brings relief to the Kerala state government and the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged gold heist at the Sabarimala temple, the Kerala High Court has stayed the remarks made by the Kollam special court. A bench led by Justice A. Badharudeen issued the order on Tuesday in response to a petition filed by the SIT. The SIT sought to quash the bail granted to Rajeevaru and to expunge the remarks made by the bail court, arguing they were unwarranted and prejudicial to the ongoing investigation.
The Director General of Prosecution (DGP), appearing for the state government, strongly supported this contention. He submitted that the remarks would hinder the filing of the final report against the tanthri (temple priest), Rajeevaru, potentially compromising the integrity of the probe.

Earlier, while granting bail, the special court had observed that the allegation of criminal conspiracy against Rajeevaru was not supported by any prima facie material at that stage of the investigation. The court further stated that no iota of evidence had been adduced by the SIT to establish any direct nexus between Rajeevaru and the first accused, apart from a bald averment about a close relationship existing between them.
These observations were seen as a major setback for the SIT, which has been diligently investigating the theft of gold ornaments from the revered Sabarimala temple, a case that has captured public attention across Kerala.

While considering the SIT's petition, the single bench of the High Court observed that the apprehension expressed by the DGP was prima facie sustainable.
