Mangaluru: Thieves allegedly broke into the house of a head constable attached to the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) and stole gold ornaments, diamond jewellery, and cash worth around Rs 15 lakh at Kaniyoor village, within Uppinangady police station limits.
Details of the Theft
Sources said Karunakara Gowda, who serves as a head constable with the KSRP, reported that gold ornaments worth Rs 14 lakh, diamond jewellery worth Rs 80,000, and cash amounting to Rs 1 lakh kept inside a cupboard were stolen. The total value of the stolen items is estimated at Rs 15 lakh.
Victim's Background
It is learnt that Gowda's wife works at a private company in Bengaluru and lives there along with their children. Gowda, who had come home on leave, was alone in the house at the time of the incident.
Sequence of Events
He reportedly remained awake till around 2 am before going to sleep. When he woke up at around 7:30 am on Friday, he noticed that the latch of the house door was open. On checking inside, he discovered that the valuables were missing, sources said.
Investigation Underway
Uppinangady police are investigating the case. They have registered a complaint and are examining evidence, including possible fingerprints and surveillance footage from the area. Further details are awaited.
