Headless Body Discovered in East Champaran Forest Triggers Murder Probe
Panic spread through the Hardiya-Chaanti forest area in Bagaha, East Champaran, on Thursday after police unearthed a headless body buried in the Naurangiya police station jurisdiction. The grim discovery has launched a full-scale murder investigation into the death of a 45-year-old man who had been missing for days.
Victim Identified as Missing Local Resident
The deceased has been identified as Murari Yadav, a resident of Sirisia Jarlahia village. According to authorities, Yadav had been missing since Sunday, raising alarms among family members and local communities. The recovery of his body in such a brutal state has sent shockwaves through the region, highlighting concerns over violent crime in forested areas.
Police Investigation Uncovers Gruesome Details
Bagaha in-charge SP Kumari Nirmala detailed the sequence of events that led to the discovery. Police received an early morning tip-off about a severed head lying near the forest, prompting an immediate response team to rush to the scene. During the initial search, bloodstains were found at a distance from the head, indicating a possible crime scene.
"When the area was searched further, a patch of freshly filled soil was noticed inside the forest with flies hovering over it, raising suspicion that the torso had been buried there," SP Nirmala explained. An FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) team was summoned, and under the supervision of a magistrate, the spot was excavated, revealing the torso. The body has since been sent to the sub-divisional hospital in Bagaha for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and gather forensic evidence.
Suspicion Falls on Friends of the Deceased
The SP added that Murari Yadav had left his home on Sunday with five friends, and their role is now under intense scrutiny. "We are investigating all angles to ascertain the motive behind this gruesome murder," she stated, emphasizing that the police are treating this as a premeditated homicide. The friends' whereabouts and actions during the time Yadav went missing are being closely examined as part of the probe.
Family Alleges Foul Play by Companions
Murari's son, Lallu Yadav, identified the body and shared distressing details with investigators. He revealed that his father had informed the family he was traveling to Nepal with his friends. "The others returned, but my father did not. We thought he was still in Nepal. After learning about the recovery on Thursday morning, we suspect his friends may have killed him," Lallu alleged, pointing to potential betrayal or conflict among the group. This allegation has added urgency to the police investigation, with authorities working to verify the friends' accounts and movements.
