Headless Boy Found in Bhakra Canal: Patiala Police Struggle with Identity and Motive After a Week
Headless Boy in Bhakra Canal: Police Struggle for Identity

Nearly a week after private divers recovered the headless body of a child with tied feet from the Bhakra Canal, no one has come forward to identify or claim the remains. The investigation has reached a stalemate as the identity of the boy, believed to be around nine years old, remains a mystery.

Post-Mortem Conducted, No Headway

Patiala SSP Varun Sharma stated, 'We have conducted the post-mortem, and while details are awaited, there is no progress as the body remains unidentified. Efforts to locate the head have also failed.' He added that nearby districts were informed, but no missing child reports matching the description have been received.

Discovery and Initial Findings

The body was discovered on June 9 in the Bhakra Canal near Karkala village by private divers, who alerted the police. The legs were bound with a red nylon rope, and the mutilated body had a sharp-edged cut near the abdomen. The divers noted that the body appeared to be only one or two days old given its condition in the water.

The shocking recovery has prompted a thorough probe. The severed head remains untraceable despite extensive searches by divers in the canal area. Police have not ruled out a black magic angle but remain tight-lipped about initial findings.

Police Investigation Underway

'Initial probe reveals the body was floating near Karkala village when spotted by divers. The missing head suggests murder. We are investigating and trying to identify the victim,' said a police official. Samana DSP Fateh Singh Brar confirmed that teams have contacted police stations upstream of the canal but are unable to connect the missing links due to the unidentified body. A case has been registered as per law.
