Hisar Court: Life Term for Three in Farmer Murder Case

Hisar Court Delivers Life Sentences in Eight-Year-Old Farmer Murder Case

A Hisar district and sessions court has delivered a significant verdict, sentencing three men to life imprisonment for the murder of a farmer who was fatally shot while attempting to oppose a buffalo theft. The tragic incident occurred in Uklana's Sahu village over eight years ago, and the court's ruling brings a measure of closure to the prolonged legal proceedings.

Court Convicts Three, Acquits One Due to Lack of Evidence

District and Sessions Judge Alka Malik convicted the accused individuals—Fazan alias Inam, Usman alias Chhakota, and Farman, all residents of Uttar Pradesh—for murder and awarded them life imprisonment. In addition to the prison terms, the court imposed substantial fines: Rs 1.5 lakh each on Fazan and Usman, and Rs 1.6 lakh on Farman. The fourth accused, Ahsan, was acquitted by the court due to insufficient evidence linking him to the crime.

Details of the 2017 Incident That Led to the Murder

According to the prosecution, the case dates back to December 27, 2017, when the Uklana police registered a murder case based on a complaint filed by Hetram, a resident of Sahu village. In his complaint, Hetram recounted that he and his younger brother Indrapal were asleep at their house when they were awakened by noises outside at approximately 3 a.m.

Upon stepping out to investigate, the brothers noticed a white pick-up vehicle parked near the house of a fellow villager, who was shouting warnings about thieves. When Hetram and Indrapal reached their cattle shed, they discovered that one of their buffaloes was missing. Suspecting theft, they approached the pick-up vehicle, where a group of men were allegedly loading the animal.

Despite being warned that the accused individuals were armed, Indrapal moved forward in a brave attempt to rescue the buffalo. Tragically, one of the accused then opened fire, hitting Indrapal in the abdomen. The assailants fled the scene immediately after the shooting, leaving Indrapal critically injured.

Aftermath and Legal Proceedings

Indrapal was rushed to a hospital in a critical condition but succumbed to his injuries during treatment, marking a devastating loss for his family and community. Following a thorough investigation and subsequent trial, the court found three of the accused guilty of murder. The life imprisonment sentences reflect the severity of the crime and serve as a deterrent against such violent acts.

This verdict underscores the judicial system's commitment to delivering justice, even in cases that span several years. It also highlights the risks faced by farmers in rural areas, where livestock theft can lead to fatal confrontations. The court's decision brings a sense of justice to the victim's family, who have waited over eight years for this outcome.
