A shocking hit-and-run incident on a busy arterial road in Sribhumi town left two pedestrians critically injured after a speeding four-wheeler allegedly lost control and rammed multiple vehicles on Thursday morning.
Sequence of Events
According to local sources, the car was moving at high speed along the main road when the driver suddenly lost control. The vehicle first hit a motorcycle, then collided with an autorickshaw, followed by a scooter, before ploughing into two pedestrians walking along the roadside. The injured pedestrians, identified as Ajit Dhar and Anup Chakraborty, sustained grievous injuries. Local residents rushed them to Sribhumi Civil Hospital, where doctors said their condition remains critical.
Driver and Owner Details
The car’s owner, Sribhumi court magistrate Shantanu Kumar Sharma, who was reportedly driving the vehicle at the time of the accident, also sustained injuries and was admitted to the same hospital. Eyewitnesses alleged that the vehicle was being driven recklessly, leading to the series of collisions. The incident triggered tension and outrage in the area, with locals demanding strict action.
Police Response and Investigation
Traffic police reached the spot soon after being alerted, seized the vehicle, and initiated an investigation into the incident.
