A tragic hit-and-run incident late on Saturday night claimed the life of a 50-year-old man in the Hazaribag district of Jharkhand. The fatal road accident occurred near a petrol pump on the busy National Highway 522.

Details of the Tragic Incident

The victim has been identified as Yugal Kishore Thakur, a resident of Kesda village in the Tati Jharia area. According to preliminary reports, Thakur was taking a walk after having his dinner when the tragedy struck.

An unidentified vehicle, moving at high speed, hit him with tremendous force near the petrol pump. Taking advantage of the prevailing fog and darkness, the driver of the vehicle did not stop to help and instead fled the spot immediately. Thakur sustained grievous injuries in the collision and was found lying on the road in a critical condition.

Police Response and Medical Efforts

Upon receiving information about the accident, Indrajeet Kumar, the officer-in-charge of Tati Jharia police station, swiftly reached the location with his team. The police officials arranged for the immediate transfer of the injured man to the Vishnugarh Community Health Centre for initial medical attention.

Seeking better treatment, his family members later rushed him to the Sadar Hospital in Hazaribag. Unfortunately, despite all efforts, the doctors at Sadar Hospital examined him and declared him brought dead.

Investigation Underway

The Tatijharia police have registered a case and launched a thorough investigation to trace the vehicle responsible for the fatal hit-and-run. Officer Indrajeet Kumar stated that a hunt is on for the vehicle which killed Thakur.

This incident has once again highlighted the dangers on highways, especially during night hours and in low-visibility conditions like fog. It underscores the critical need for:
