Bomb Threat Email Sparks Panic at Hailakandi Court, Police Declare Hoax
Hoax Bomb Threat at Hailakandi Court, Security Tightened

A chilling email warning of an imminent bomb blast sent security forces into a tizzy at the Hailakandi District and Sessions Court premises in Assam, creating widespread panic before being declared a likely hoax.

Security Scramble After Ominous Email

Officials reported that the court's official email ID received a threatening message claiming that explosive devices had been planted inside the building. The alarming content prompted an immediate and high-alert response from the authorities.

Acting with urgency, police teams, supported by cybercrime experts, rushed to the court complex. They swiftly tightened security across the entire premises to prevent any potential incident. A thorough and meticulous search operation was launched to scan the building and its surroundings for any suspicious objects or immediate dangers.

Preliminary Probe Points to a Hoax

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for Hailakandi, Amitabh Sinha, confirmed the receipt of the threatening email. However, he stated that the initial assessment by the security forces suggested the threat lacked credibility. "It appears to be a hoax. However, we are taking the matter seriously and have initiated steps to trace the origin of the email," SSP Sinha said.

Reinforcing this assessment, a police officer involved in the operation confirmed, "No suspicious object was found during the checks." The officer added that a formal investigation is now underway to identify and track down the sender of the malicious email.

Investigation Launched to Trace Culprit

Despite the preliminary conclusion that the threat was false, the police are not treating the incident lightly. The cybercrime cell has been roped in to delve into the digital trail of the email. The probe aims to uncover the source, which could lead to legal action against the individual or group responsible for causing public alarm and wasting crucial security resources.

Such hoax threats disrupt public order, cause unnecessary panic, and divert police personnel from genuine emergencies. The authorities have emphasized that creating such fear is a serious offence and that the perpetrator will face stringent legal consequences once identified.
