Home Guard Constable Booked for Theft at SP's Home

Phagwara: A woman constable of the Punjab Home Guards has been booked for allegedly stealing cash and jewellery from the residence of Phagwara SP Madhvi Sharma.

Complaint Filed by SP's Mother

According to the FIR, the complaint was lodged by the SP's mother, Santosh Kumari, who stated that constable Manjit Kaur had been deployed at their residence in the Gilco Green area on Hoshiarpur Road from 9 am to 5 pm daily.

Kumari said she had developed trust in the constable over time. However, when she checked a suitcase on Wednesday, she found that Rs 20,000 in cash, some gold jewellery and 200 Canadian dollars were missing.

Constable Fails to Provide Explanation

She alleged that when questioned, the constable failed to provide a satisfactory explanation, leading her to suspect that Manjit Kaur had stolen the valuables.

Based on the complaint, police registered an FIR late on Wednesday night under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Investigation Underway

The accused constable was residing in police quarters near Sadar police station. Further investigation is underway.
