Hostel warden, bus driver held in Himachal student suicide case

The Khundian police in Dehra, Kangra district, have arrested two employees of a private convent school at Sunhet in connection with the abetment to suicide of a 14-year-old Class IX student. The arrested individuals are Abhishek Kumar, hostel warden, and Rakesh Kumar, school bus driver. They were taken into custody on Wednesday in relation to an FIR registered on July 5, following the student's death on July 4.

Father's complaint leads to FIR

The case was initiated based on a complaint from the deceased student's father, Pradeep Kumar, a resident of Thamwa village. He alleged that four school employees had abetted his son's suicide. An FIR (No. 26/2026) was registered under Sections 108 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Police investigation and evidence collection

Dehra Superintendent of Police Sandeep Dhawal stated that immediately after the FIR was registered, police launched a manhunt for the accused and collected scientific and physical evidence with assistance from the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory in Dharamsala. During the preliminary investigation, police found that the student had been strangulated, the SP added.

Other accused granted anticipatory bail

The other two accused, Bharat Singh, Managing Director of the school, and Gunjan Kumari, school principal, have secured anticipatory bail. Police are questioning them regarding their alleged involvement in the case.

Police assure impartial probe

SP Dhawal assured that the investigation is being conducted from all angles in a thorough and impartial manner. He added that further legal action will be taken in accordance with available evidence, scientific reports, and other findings.
