Ludhiana: The Ludhiana rural police have registered a case against a hotel owner for allegedly assaulting and outraging the modesty of a female courier delivery agent in Jagraon. The incident stemmed from a dispute over a previous package delivery. The complaint was filed after the victim approached the senior superintendent of police's office.
Details of the Incident
The complainant, who has been working with a courier company for four years, stated that the incident occurred while she was delivering a parcel to the accused's residence. According to her statement, a security guard informed her that the accused wanted to speak with her inside the premises.
Once inside, the hotelier brought up a package delivered a few days earlier, accusing her of delivering the wrong order. During the ensuing argument, the complainant alleged that the accused behaved inappropriately and grabbed her with ill intent.
She further claimed that after managing to break free and escape outside, the accused pursued her, physically assaulted her, and forcefully took away her scooter, mobile phone, and cash earnings.
Legal Action and Medical Treatment
Following the assault, the complainant reached the SSP's office to report the matter. Officials privy to the matter revealed that the SSP's reader subsequently directed personnel from the bus stand police post to record her complaint. After the complaint was registered, she underwent treatment at a government hospital.
Accused Denies Allegations
Talking to the media, the accused denied all allegations leveled against him. He claimed that the same delivery person had delivered an incorrect parcel to him a few days earlier and collected ₹700 for it. He further alleged that she misbehaved with him when he questioned her about the wrong package.
Jagraon SHO Parminder Singh confirmed that a case has been registered against the hotel owner. He added that the accused is yet to be arrested.
