Hubballi Police Enforce Strict Gym Regulations Following Assault Incidents
In response to recent sexual assault cases at BVB College in Hubballi, the Police Commissionerate convened a crucial meeting with gym owners on Monday. The authorities issued directives requiring all gyms to secure licenses from the municipal corporation, install CCTV surveillance systems, and maintain video footage for a minimum of six months.
Police Commissioner Addresses Safety Concerns
Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar, who chaired the meeting with gym owners and trainers, emphasized that similar discussions have been conducted at every police station across the city to bolster women's safety measures. He acknowledged that numerous individuals in the twin cities depend on gym operations for their livelihood.
"While most gym owners and trainers maintain proper discipline, the misconduct of a few can tarnish the reputation of the entire industry," Commissioner Kumar stated. He revealed that approximately 150 gyms operate within the district and cautioned owners to remain vigilant.
Stringent Compliance Requirements
The commissioner issued clear warnings to gym proprietors, stressing that only authorized staff should be permitted inside facilities. "Licenses will be revoked immediately if violations occur," he declared, underscoring the paramount importance of ensuring female members' security.
Gym owners expressed concerns during the meeting that reputable establishments were being unfairly stigmatized due to isolated incidents. They assured police officials of their willingness to comply with all departmental regulations.
Municipal Corporation Backs Police Directives
HDMC Commissioner Rudresh Ghali reinforced the police mandates, urging gym owners to register their establishments promptly and adhere strictly to government norms. He emphasized implementing protective measures for women members and staff, with license cancellation threatened for non-compliance.
The meeting saw participation from several key officials including DCP Raveesh CR, KMC-RI representatives, and RMO Dr. Rajashekhar Dyaberi.
Community Groups Demand Further Investigation
Separately, Ranragini, the women's wing of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, called for a comprehensive inquiry into an alleged 'love jihad' case while advocating for enhanced gym safety protocols. Bhavya Gowda of Ranragini addressed reporters on Monday, suggesting possible organized involvement behind the incident.
"Police should investigate thoroughly and potentially seize the gym premises if necessary," Gowda asserted. She alleged that the sister of an accused individual introduced a Hindu girl to her brother Sameer Mulla, indicating what she described as a potentially larger network behind the case.
The dual developments highlight growing concerns about women's safety in public spaces and increasing regulatory scrutiny over fitness facilities in Hubballi.
