A local court in Hyderabad has convicted a gymnastics coach from a school in Miyapur under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) for the rape of a three-year-old girl on school premises in 2019. The court also found the school principal guilty of failing to take appropriate action after becoming aware of the incident.
Details of the Crime
According to Miyapur police, the coach took the young girl to an isolated area within the school, where he committed the heinous act before fleeing the scene. After the principal learned of the incident, no action was taken against the coach, leading to charges of negligence.
Legal Proceedings
The girl's family filed a complaint, prompting the arrest of both the coach and the principal. The special POCSO court conducted a trial and sentenced the coach to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. The principal received a three-year prison term for his inaction.
This case highlights the importance of swift action in protecting children from sexual abuse and holding accountable those who fail in their duty to safeguard minors.
