Hyderabad Jewellery Store Hit by Bold Gold Scam

Police in Hyderabad are hunting for two women who executed a clever scam at a prominent jewellery store. The incident occurred on January 14 at SKT Gold & Diamonds in the CBI Colony area of Jubilee Hills.

The Deceptive Exchange

Two women, estimated to be in their late thirties, entered the store around noon. They presented themselves as regular customers wanting to exchange old gold ornaments. Store staff, following standard procedure, carefully weighed the items. The total came to 100.28 grams.

Employees then conducted purity tests on the jewellery. Everything seemed legitimate at that moment. Based on the assessment, the staff provided the women with 77.93 grams of new gold jewellery and 35,000 rupees in cash as part of the exchange deal.

The Discovery of the Fraud

The truth emerged the following day during a routine morning audit. At 11:30 am on January 15, employees made a shocking discovery. The ornaments received from the women were not genuine gold. They were imitation pieces made to look real.

Store management immediately filed a formal complaint with the police. The total value of the stolen gold and cash amounted to approximately 10 lakh rupees.

How the Scam Unfolded

A review of the store's CCTV footage revealed the women's cunning method. While the staff members were occupied with other tasks, the suspects secretly switched the real gold ornaments they brought with fake ones. This sleight of hand allowed them to walk out with valuable new gold and cash, leaving behind worthless imitations.

Showroom manager Shiva Kumar provided this crucial detail to the investigating officers.

Police Investigation Underway

Jubilee Hills police registered a case on January 15 under specific sections of the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The charges include theft in a building and cheating to dishonestly induce delivery of property.

An investigator stated that police are actively working to identify the suspects. They are analyzing the CCTV footage and mobile phone details linked to the women. The primary goal is to locate and arrest the individuals responsible for this audacious crime.

The case highlights the sophisticated tactics used by criminals to target jewellery businesses. Store owners and staff are advised to remain vigilant during customer transactions.
