Hyderabad Police Uncover Staged Burglary, Arrest Complainant for Jewelry Theft
In a startling turn of events, the Chikkadpally police in Hyderabad have solved a meticulously staged burglary case, leading to the arrest of the very complainant who reported the crime. The accused, identified as Bhaskar Pramod Mula, a 32-year-old unemployed BTech graduate, is now in custody for allegedly stealing family jewelry worth Rs 12 lakh and attempting to cover his tracks with a fabricated burglary story.
The Initial Complaint and Investigation
On February 9, Bhaskar Pramod Mula lodged a formal complaint with the Chikkadpally police, claiming that unidentified intruders had broken into his penthouse at the Alekya Estate apartment. According to his statement, the burglars made off with a significant amount of jewelry, including a gold chain, six bangles, two rings, and various silverware items, all collectively valued at approximately Rs 12 lakh. The police promptly registered a burglary case and initiated an investigation into the matter.
Inconsistencies and Financial Scrutiny
During the course of the investigation, officers began to notice several inconsistencies in Pramod's account of the events. This prompted a deeper dive into his financial records, which revealed a pattern of heavy spending during his stay in Bengaluru a few months prior. Further scrutiny of his bank loan and credit card transactions uncovered that, since the beginning of 2024, Pramod had secretly pledged his grandmother's precious ornaments with various banks and private financiers, securing a total of Rs 4.6 lakh against them.
The Motive and Staged Crime
Investigators disclosed that the motive behind Pramod's actions stemmed from family discussions about using his grandmother's jewelry for his elder brother's upcoming wedding. Fearing exposure of his secret dealings, Pramod panicked and devised an elaborate plan to stage a burglary. On February 9, he executed this plan by hiding some of the remaining jewelry in another apartment block and disposing of empty jewel boxes in the Musi nala near his residence. After completing these steps, he alerted his family members and subsequently called the police to report the fictitious crime.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
The Chikkadpally police, after piecing together the evidence and confronting Pramod with the discrepancies, arrested him for his involvement in the theft and the staged burglary. He now faces serious charges related to fraud and filing a false police report.
