Hyderabad Police Crack Down on Illegal Chinese Manja Trade
Secunderabad zone police have made a significant breakthrough in curbing the illegal sale of Chinese manja. Officers arrested ten people in a series of coordinated raids. They also seized a large quantity of the banned kite string from the suspects.
Major Seizure of Hazardous Material
Police confiscated 163 bobbins of Chinese manja during the operation. The total value of the seized material is estimated at 1.8 lakh rupees. This synthetic string is notorious for posing serious threats to both humans and birds.
Coordinated Police Action Across Stations
Acting on specific intelligence alerts, personnel from three police stations launched simultaneous searches. Teams from Kacheguda, Domalguda, and Amberpet police stations targeted houses where the illegal manja was being stocked.
Kacheguda Police Raid
Kacheguda police conducted a raid on Thursday at the house of businessman Nomula Santosh Kumar. The raid took place at Mothi Market in Kacheguda. Officers seized 51 bobbins of manja from this location. They arrested Santosh and his mother, Pushpa, at the scene.
Based on confessions obtained from the initial arrests, police expanded their operation. They raided the houses of alleged supplier Lalith Singh in Dhoolpet. They also targeted sellers Kashiram Singh in Dhoolpet and Om Prakash Singh in Mangalhat. From these locations, police seized an additional 56 bobbins of the banned string.
Investigators identified a sixth suspect named Kapil in connection with this group. Kapil is currently absconding. Police revealed that the prime supplier, Lalith Singh, procured the manja from a seller based in Delhi. Singh has a previous criminal record, having been booked under the NDPS Act in both Hyderabad and East Godavari districts.
Domalguda Police Operation
Domalguda police apprehended four students near the NTR Stadium on Thursday. The students were found in possession of eight bobbins of Chinese manja. According to police, a friend named Prashanth had supplied the material to the students for resale purposes. Another accomplice, Shiva Raj, is also absconding in this case.
Amberpet Police Seizure
Amberpet police seized 48 bobbins of manja from a seller identified as K Sunil Kumar. Kumar operates from Jummerat Bazar. Two of his associates, Charan and Rajesh, are currently evading arrest.
Legal Charges Filed Against Accused
Police have booked all arrested individuals under multiple legal provisions. The charges include:
- Section 223 of the BNS for disobedience to an order duly promulgated by a public servant
- Section 125 of the BNS for acts endangering life or personal safety of others
- Sections 5 and 15 of the Environment (Protection) Act
This comprehensive legal action demonstrates the seriousness with which authorities are treating the illegal manja trade. The operation highlights ongoing efforts to remove this dangerous material from circulation in Hyderabad.
