Hyderabad: In a decoy operation, the Special Operations Team (SOT) of Malkajgiri commissionerate, along with Vanasthalipura police, busted an illegal sex-determination racket operating across two medical facilities in the city. Police booked three accused, including a hospital director, and issued them notices.
Decoy Operation Unveils Illegal Practice
Acting on a specific alert regarding illegal sex-determination tests being conducted at Hayagreeva Hospital in Vanasthalipuram, SOT sleuths planned a decoy operation. They sent a woman constable to the facility, posing as a patient, on Friday afternoon.
“Hayagreeva Hospital’s director, Korra Raju, and receptionist Lokesh assured the woman constable that arrangements could be made for a sex-determination test. The duo referred her to their associate, Vijay Kumar, a lab technician at a clinic in Tukkuguda, to perform an ultrasound scan to determine the unborn child’s gender,” said Vanasthalipura inspector S Ravi Babu.
Follow-Up Operation Leads to Arrest
Acting on the information, police launched a follow-up decoy operation at Sri Sai Dhanush Clinic in Thukkuguda, where Vijay Kumar was apprehended while conducting the illegal procedure. All three accused—K Raju, Lokesh, and Vijay Kumar—were booked under the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act on Friday. The trio were issued notices to appear for questioning before the investigating officer.
This operation highlights the ongoing efforts to curb illegal sex-determination practices in the region. Authorities urge the public to report any such activities to help protect the rights of unborn children and uphold the law.
