Hyderabad Police Register Criminal Case in Gruesome Dog Torture Incident
In a shocking case of animal cruelty, the Dundigal police in Hyderabad have registered a criminal case against a group of individuals who allegedly tortured a dog for two consecutive days before setting it ablaze near KVR Valley. The incident, which culminated in the dog's death on Saturday night, has sparked outrage and led to legal action under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Details of the Alleged Torture and Killing
According to police reports, the ordeal began on Friday when an abandoned dog, which was being cared for by a street vendor, was attacked with sticks by a group of people. The attackers reportedly branded the dog as being affected by rabies, though this claim has not been verified. The following evening, the same group allegedly gathered again and launched another attack on the already injured canine.
Peddineni Sai Teja, the chief executive officer of a private defence company, lodged a formal complaint with the police after learning about the incident through his sources. Based on his complaint, the Dundigal police registered the case, highlighting the severity of the alleged violations.
Witness Account and Failed Rescue Attempt
In his statement, Sai Teja described the group's determination to harm the dog. "The group was determined to harm the dog. After I came to know about the incident through my sources, I reached the spot and tried to convince them not to kill it. I took the responsibility for trapping the dog so that it could be protected from danger," he said.
He recounted how one of the individuals forced the dog, which was hiding underneath a DCM vehicle, to come out. During the attempt to escape, the dog bit the person before slipping away. The accused later caught the dog in a net and took it away. "I was trying to trace the people who left the place in a vehicle with the dog. Sometime later, I received information that the dog had been killed by setting it ablaze. Immediately, I went to the spot and found the dog dead," he added, expressing his dismay at the gruesome outcome.
Legal Implications and Community Response
The registration of the case under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act underscores the legal ramifications for such acts of violence against animals. This incident has drawn attention to animal welfare issues in Hyderabad, prompting calls for stricter enforcement of laws and greater public awareness.
Key points from the case include:
- The dog was allegedly tortured over two days before being killed.
- The police action was initiated based on a complaint from a concerned citizen.
- The case highlights ongoing challenges in preventing animal cruelty in urban areas.
As investigations continue, authorities are urging the public to report similar incidents and cooperate in ensuring justice for victims of animal abuse. This case serves as a grim reminder of the need for compassion and legal accountability in society.
