Hyderabad Police Launch Aggressive Anti-Drug Initiative with New Testing Kits
In a significant move to combat substance abuse, the Hyderabad City Police announced on Friday that every police station in the city has now been equipped with specialized drug testing kits. Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar has issued clear directives for officers to utilize these kits on individuals exhibiting suspicious behavior during nighttime hours, marking a proactive approach to addressing drug-related activities in the city.
Police Commissioner's Hospital Visit Sparks New Strategy
The announcement followed Commissioner Sajjanar's official visit to Gandhi Hospital, where he inspected the newly established de-addiction treatment facility. During this visit, hospital superintendent N Vani provided a comprehensive briefing to police officials on the operations and capabilities of the center, which has been specifically designed to treat individuals with substance abuse disorders.
Alarming Test Results Reveal Widespread Drug Use Among Offenders
Recent testing conducted by Hyderabad police has uncovered disturbing statistics regarding drug use among known offenders. Of the 239 history-sheeters who underwent mandatory drug testing, a staggering 188 individuals tested positive for various substances, representing approximately 78.6% of those screened. This alarming revelation has prompted immediate action from law enforcement authorities.
Comprehensive Treatment Program Implemented at Gandhi Hospital
Currently, 35 of the individuals who tested positive are receiving intensive treatment at Gandhi Hospital's state-of-the-art de-addiction center. These patients will remain in the facility for a mandatory 15-day treatment program, during which they will receive medical care, counseling, and rehabilitation services designed to address their substance abuse issues comprehensively.
Enhanced Police Procedures for Nighttime Operations
The distribution of drug testing kits to all police stations represents a fundamental shift in how Hyderabad police approach drug enforcement. Officers have received specific training on proper testing procedures and have been instructed to focus their efforts on individuals moving suspiciously during nighttime hours, when drug-related activities often peak. This targeted approach aims to identify and intervene with drug users before they commit additional crimes or cause harm to themselves or others.
The initiative reflects Hyderabad Police's commitment to tackling the city's drug problem through both enforcement and rehabilitation strategies. By combining immediate testing capabilities with access to professional treatment facilities, authorities hope to reduce drug-related crime and help individuals overcome addiction through structured medical intervention.
