Website Defaced with Anti-India Content
The official website of the Meerut Development Authority (MDA) was hacked on June 28, 2026, with the homepage displaying pro-Pakistan messages. The breach was detected in the morning, prompting immediate action from the MDA's technical and information technology (IT) teams.
The hackers replaced the legitimate content with inflammatory slogans and imagery supporting Pakistan, causing concern among officials. The MDA administration confirmed the incident and stated that efforts are underway to restore the website and secure its server.
Response and Restoration Efforts
According to a PTI report, the MDA's IT teams initiated restoration work soon after the hack was discovered. The website was taken offline to prevent further damage and to investigate the breach. Officials are working with cybersecurity experts to identify the vulnerability exploited by the attackers.
An MDA spokesperson said, "We are treating this as a serious cyberattack. Our teams are working diligently to restore the website and strengthen security protocols to prevent future incidents." No group has claimed responsibility for the hack so far.
Impact and Security Measures
The website serves as a key platform for public services, including property tax payments, building plan approvals, and citizen queries. The downtime has temporarily disrupted these services. The MDA has advised citizens to use alternative channels or wait until the site is fully restored.
This incident highlights the growing threat of cyberattacks on government portals in India. The MDA is coordinating with state cybercrime authorities to trace the hackers. Enhanced security measures, including regular audits and stronger firewalls, are being implemented.
