Hyderabad Suicide Case: Wife and 10 Relatives Booked for Alleged Harassment
In a tragic incident in Hyderabad, a 41-year-old man allegedly died by suicide at his residence in Lakshmi Nagar under the jurisdiction of the Neredmet police station on Tuesday night. The police have registered a case against his wife and ten of her relatives following a formal complaint filed by the deceased's brother, highlighting allegations of severe harassment and domestic disputes.
Details of the Deceased and Family Background
The deceased has been identified as Nagelli Srinivas, originally from Ramakrishnapur in Mancherial district. He was employed at a private company and resided in Lakshmi Nagar. Srinivas married Satlapally Jyothi in 2012, and the couple has a son together. According to the FIR, after their marriage, Srinivas supported his wife's higher education, which eventually led her to secure a Group-II government job.
Allegations of Harassment and Property Disputes
The complaint, filed by Srinivas's brother, Nagelli Shiva Krishna, alleges that after obtaining the government job, Jyothi began distancing herself from Srinivas and subjected him to harassment, reportedly stating that she no longer needed him. This led to a period of separation between the couple. Following the birth of their son, Srinivas rejoined her, but tensions escalated further.
During this time, Jyothi allegedly compelled Srinivas to purchase a house in Lakshmi Nagar, AS Rao Nagar, on which he spent approximately ₹50 lakh. The complainant claims that Jyothi objected to Srinivas's relatives attending the housewarming ceremony, celebrating it exclusively with her family members. Subsequently, she filed a dowry case and initiated divorce proceedings against Srinivas and his family. In response, Srinivas reportedly filed a civil case regarding the ownership of the house, adding to the ongoing legal battles.
Discovery of the Suicide and Police Investigation
On Tuesday afternoon, Shiva Krishna attempted to contact his brother but found his phone switched off. Concerned, he visited the residence in the evening and, upon receiving no response, entered to find Srinivas dead. Police officials confirmed that a suicide note was recovered from the scene, in which Srinivas allegedly stated that he was taking the extreme step due to harassment and threats from his wife and her relatives.
Based on the complaint and the contents of the suicide note, the Neredmet police have registered a case of abetment of suicide. An investigation has been launched to delve deeper into the allegations and circumstances surrounding the tragic event. Authorities are examining the evidence and statements to determine the full extent of the involvement of the accused parties.
This incident underscores the severe impact of domestic disputes and harassment, prompting calls for greater awareness and support systems to prevent such tragedies in the future.
