In a shocking incident reminiscent of the Sonam and Siya cases, a woman named Sandhya in Hyderabad allegedly killed her husband by injecting toilet cleaner into his body through a cannula. The crime came to light after the husband's sudden death raised suspicions among family members and police.
How the Crime Was Executed
According to police reports, Sandhya, a resident of the Kukatpally area, hatched a plan to murder her husband due to marital discord. She allegedly purchased a toilet cleaner from a local store and injected it into her husband's intravenous cannula while he was asleep. The cannula had been inserted earlier for medical treatment. The toxic substance entered his bloodstream, causing immediate cardiac arrest.
The husband, identified as 35-year-old Ravi, had been undergoing treatment for a minor ailment and had a cannula in place for medication. Sandhya took advantage of this to carry out the murder. Police said she confessed to the crime during interrogation.
Similar Cases in the Past
This murder bears a striking resemblance to the cases of Sonam and Siya, who also used similar methods to kill their husbands. In 2024, Sonam was arrested for injecting toilet cleaner into her husband's IV line in Delhi. Earlier this year, Siya was convicted for poisoning her husband with a toilet cleaner injection in Mumbai. These cases have highlighted a disturbing trend of women using medical devices to commit murder.
According to forensic experts, injecting toilet cleaner directly into the bloodstream causes rapid organ failure and death within minutes. The chemical composition of toilet cleaners, often containing hydrochloric acid or bleach, is lethal when introduced intravenously.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Hyderabad police were alerted after Ravi's family noticed unusual symptoms before his death. An autopsy revealed the presence of toxic chemicals in his body, leading to a detailed investigation. Police traced the purchase of the toilet cleaner to a nearby store and confronted Sandhya, who broke down and confessed.
“Sandhya has been arrested and charged with murder. She admitted to planning the crime for several days. The cannula was already in place, making it easier for her to administer the poison,” said a senior police officer on condition of anonymity. The weapon of murder, the toilet cleaner bottle, was recovered from her home.
Sandhya and Ravi had been married for eight years and had two children. Neighbors described them as a quiet couple, but police sources indicated frequent arguments over financial issues.
Legal and Social Implications
This case has sparked debates about domestic violence and the misuse of medical knowledge. Lawyers say that such premeditated murders could attract life imprisonment or even the death penalty under Indian law. Social activists have called for better mental health support and conflict resolution mechanisms in marriages.
As investigations continue, police are also probing whether Sandhya had any accomplices. The case has sent shockwaves through the community, with many questioning how someone could resort to such a gruesome act.
