Bareilly: A 23-year-old MBA final-year student of IIMT University in Meerut's Ganganagar was found dead outside her hostel gym on Wednesday morning.
Incident Details
Police said Anu Gupta, from Saharanpur, died after falling from the stairs of her hostel building. Anu's room was on the third floor. The body was found around 9.30 am by a hostel maid outside the gym on the ground floor of Sarojini Naidu Girls' Hostel.
She was rushed to hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Police later sent the body for post-mortem.
Police Investigation
SP (Rural) Abhijeet Kumar said no suicide note was found either by police or the family, and a probe is ongoing.
University registrar V P Rakesh said, "The university is extending full cooperation to the police investigation."
Student Protests
Following the incident, nearly 300 students staged a sit-in at the main gate of the institute, accusing the university administration of harassing Gupta.
A student told TOI, "The university administration was trying to debar Gupta and had threatened her. There was pressure on her to deposit money to avoid debarment, and that pushed her to take this step."
Another student alleged that threatening students with debarment and marking them absent was common at the university. "They harass students over small matters and extract money from them. Anu was also harassed," she claimed.
