Illegal Dargah in Aarey Colony Demolished

Mumbai: An illegal dargah situated inside Aarey Colony was demolished by the local administration on Tuesday under tight police bandobast. Police officials confirmed that there was no law and order situation during the operation. To prevent any mob from gathering, internal roads within Aarey Colony were closed by the police.

Details of the Demolition

Deputy Commissioner of Police Gajanan Rajmane (zone 12) informed reporters that the dargah was constructed by a trust without obtaining the necessary permissions. “As it was an encroachment, notices were sent to the trust to dismantle the structure. Sufficient time was provided to them, but they failed to comply. The administration then requested adequate police bandobast, which was provided, to carry out the demolition,” he said.

Previous Complaints

BJP leader Kirit Somaiya stated that he had lodged a complaint against the illegal structure almost a year ago. Additionally, Aarey Colony security officer Vijay Wagh had filed a complaint in January this year alleging that electricity had been illegally used at the dargah for the past decade. He claimed that over 77,000 units of electricity, amounting to approximately Rs 31 lakh, had been drawn illegally from the electricity box near unit 32 in Aarey Colony.
