Lucknow: An alleged illegal soil mining operation sparked violence in the Sushant Golf City area after a man who objected to the excavation claimed he was threatened, his house attacked with bricks and stones, and shots fired in a bid to intimidate his family.
Incident Details
The incident took place in Sewai village in the early hours of Wednesday. Police have registered an FIR against Abhishek Sharma, Durgesh Kumar and several unidentified associates.
According to complainant Vivek Singh, he was out on a morning walk near a brick kiln around 4 am when he allegedly spotted JCB machines engaged in soil excavation. Singh claimed that when he questioned the activity and asked those involved to stop the alleged illegal mining, the accused threatened him with dire consequences if he continued to oppose them.
Escalation of Violence
The confrontation allegedly escalated an hour later when four vehicles carrying the accused and their associates arrived outside Singh’s residence. The group allegedly abused family members and launched a brick-pelting attack on the house. A member of the family sustained injuries after being struck by a stone, the FIR states.
Attackers fired three to four rounds in the air before fleeing, allegedly to terrorise the family. The firing and stone pelting triggered panic, prompting the family to seek police help through the emergency 112 helpline.
Police Response
Sushant Golf City SHO Rajeev Ranjan Upadhyay said two accused had been taken into custody and were being questioned, while efforts were underway to identify and arrest the remaining suspects.
