Joint Operation Demolishes Illegal Structure Linked to Murder Accused in Bokaro
In a significant enforcement action, the Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) and the district administration collaborated on Tuesday to demolish an illegally constructed office building. The structure was allegedly connected to Binod Kumar, also known as Binod Khopdi, who is an accused in a murder case from December of last year.
Demolition Drive Executed Under Court Order
The demolition was carried out in response to an eviction order issued by the Estate Court of BSL. A joint team, led by BSL officials and DSP (City) Alok Ranjan, executed the order with heavy police support. They targeted the encroached area in Sector VI, where the office was located, and successfully razed the building to the ground. Additionally, a swimming pool constructed on the same plot was also demolished during the operation.
Background of the Accused and the Encroachment
Binod Kumar is currently in judicial custody at Chas Jail, facing charges for the murder of Jayant Singh. Despite his incarceration, he is actively contesting for the position of mayor in the upcoming Chas Municipal Corporation election. BSL officials clarified that the plot in question is owned by the public sector undertaking and had been encroached upon for several years. The issue gained prominence only after Kumar's involvement in the murder case, where he is considered a prime accused.
A senior BSL official stated, "We had received repeated complaints about this illegal construction. After following the due legal process, the Estate Court issued an eviction order, which we executed today. This is BSL land, and we always act according to procedure whenever encroachments are identified."
Police Support and Allegations of Political Motivation
DSP (City) Alok Ranjan emphasized that the police provided necessary support to ensure the peaceful execution of the court order. "The accused has approximately 20 criminal cases registered against him. The structure was illegally built and was allegedly used as a hideout. Our priority was to maintain law and order during the demolition," he explained.
However, supporters of Binod Kumar have raised allegations that the demolition was politically motivated, suggesting it was timed to impact his mayoral campaign. These claims add a layer of controversy to the enforcement action, highlighting the intersection of legal proceedings and political dynamics in the region.
