The passenger, identified as Mohammad Adnan from Mau, Uttar Pradesh, was immediately detained by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) upon the aircraft's arrival at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi. He was subsequently handed over to the Phulpur police for further investigation.
During initial questioning, Adnan made the bizarre claim that he was "possessed" and stated he had no awareness that the button he pressed could actually open the emergency exit. An official First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against him under Section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with endangering human life or personal safety of others.

The situation escalated dramatically just before the scheduled landing at Varanasi airport around 10:20 PM. Adnan made a second attempt to activate the emergency gate button.
