In a dramatic aviation security incident, an IndiGo Airlines flight operating between Jeddah and Hyderabad was forced to make an emergency diversion after airport authorities received a chilling email threatening a human bomb onboard.
The flight, identified as 6E 1732, was en route to Hyderabad when Mumbai Airport's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) received the threatening communication. The email specifically mentioned a "human bomb" threat, triggering immediate security protocols.
Emergency Response and Diversion
According to official sources, the aircraft was promptly diverted to Mumbai Airport following standard security procedures. The plane landed safely at CSMIA around 8:45 PM, where it was directed to an isolated bay for comprehensive security checks.
Security personnel including Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) teams swiftly cordoned off the aircraft and began thorough inspections of both the airplane and passenger baggage. All passengers were safely evacuated from the aircraft during the security sweep operation.
Investigation Underway
Preliminary investigations revealed that the threatening email originated from an unidentified source. Authorities are currently tracing the digital footprint of the communication to identify the perpetrator.
"All necessary protocols were followed, and the aircraft was thoroughly checked by security agencies," confirmed an airport official. "The safety of passengers and crew remains our utmost priority in such situations."
Passenger Safety Assured
Despite the tense situation, all passengers remained safe throughout the ordeal. Airport authorities arranged for necessary accommodations and alternate travel arrangements for affected passengers once security clearance was obtained.
This incident marks another security challenge for Indian aviation authorities, highlighting the ongoing need for robust threat assessment and emergency response mechanisms in the aviation sector.
