An IndiGo aircraft flying from Kuwait to Hyderabad was forced to make an emergency landing at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on Tuesday morning following a bomb threat. The incident triggered a high-alert security protocol, leading to the safe evacuation of all passengers and a thorough inspection of the plane.
Emergency Landing and Swift Security Response
The flight, operating as IndiGo 6E1234, was diverted and landed at the Mumbai airport at 7:45 am on December 2, 2025. Upon landing, the aircraft was immediately moved to an isolated bay for security procedures. Officials confirmed that all passengers were evacuated safely without any reported injuries.
Following the evacuation, a multi-agency security sweep was initiated. Teams from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Mumbai Police, and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) conducted a full inspection of the aircraft as per standard operating procedures. An official investigation has been launched to trace the origin and assess the credibility of the threat.
Airline and Airport Authorities Follow Protocol
In an official statement, an IndiGo spokesperson said the airline acted in accordance with established protocols. "A security threat was received for IndiGo flight 6E1234 operating from Kuwait to Hyderabad on 2nd December 2025 due to which the aircraft was diverted to Mumbai," the spokesperson stated.
The airline emphasized that it informed relevant authorities immediately and cooperated fully with the security checks. "We made all efforts to minimise inconvenience to our customers including offering them refreshments and sharing regular updates. As always, safety and security of our customers, crew and aircraft are our topmost priorities," the spokesperson added.
A Mumbai airport official also confirmed that all protocols were followed meticulously after the threat was received. "The flight was diverted and secured. Further information will be available after the checks are completed," the official said.
Passenger Arrangements and Context of Recent Threats
Authorities have stated that alternative travel arrangements will be made for the passengers destined for Hyderabad once the aircraft receives clearance from security teams. Travellers have been advised to monitor official notifications from the airline and airport for any updates regarding their schedules.
This alarming event follows a similar security scare last month. On November 12, a bomb threat email received on IndiGo's grievance portal had put several Indian airports, including Delhi, Chennai, and Goa, on high alert. Airports in Mumbai and Hyderabad were also alerted during that incident. The Delhi Police later confirmed that threat was a hoax.
As the probe into Tuesday's threat continues, IndiGo and airport authorities are expected to release further updates. The incident underscores the robust security protocols in place at Indian airports to handle such emergencies while prioritizing passenger safety above all.
