Indore Fire Tragedy: Postmortem Reveals Partial Remains, Forensic Teams Resume Search
In a heartbreaking development from the devastating fire at Brijeshwari Annexe in Indore, the postmortem examination of six-year-old Tanay has revealed that only a few of his body parts were recovered from the debris. Several portions of the child's remains are still unaccounted for, prompting forensic teams to revisit the fire site for an intensified search operation.
Forensic Confusion and Ongoing Recovery Efforts
Days after the deadly blaze that claimed eight lives, forensic experts have resumed their meticulous search to locate missing human remains. Investigators are simultaneously assessing the extensive destruction caused by the inferno. During the recovery process, doctors discovered a 1.5 cm piece of foam inside a sack that was initially mistaken for human remains, highlighting the confusion and challenges faced during early recovery efforts.
Cause of Death and Investigation Findings
According to the preliminary postmortem findings, most victims died due to smoke inhalation before sustaining burns. Police have definitively ruled out electrocution as a cause of death. "None of the victims died due to electric shock. All deaths were caused by smoke inhalation and severe burns," stated Additional DCP Amrendra Singh. This clarification addresses earlier claims from family members who suggested that the fire department pouring water before switching off power might have led to electrocution deaths.
The Devastating Blaze and Its Victims
The fire, which broke out in the early hours of Wednesday, resulted in eight fatalities, including businessman Manoj Pugalia and members of his family. Investigators suspect the extreme intensity of the blaze, potentially exacerbated by explosions in appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerator compressors, and gas cylinders, may have caused severe disintegration of bodies. This has significantly complicated both recovery and identification processes, with further forensic reports still awaited.
Heroic Rescue Attempts and Tragic Outcomes
Probe findings indicate that Manoj Pugalia managed to move several family members to safety, including his sons Saurabh, Saumil, Harshit, and wife Sunita, before courageously attempting to rescue others trapped inside. Tragically, he was later found along with his daughter-in-law Simran near a channel gate on the terrace, both severely charred. This suggests they were caught in the flames during their desperate escape attempt.
Medical Examination Clarifications
The forensic report provides crucial clarifications about other victims. It states that Vijay Sethia and Ruchika died of asphyxiation, with carbon monoxide traces found in their bodies indicating they inhaled smoke while asleep before the fire reached them. Their bodies showed relatively fewer burn injuries. Additionally, the report has ruled out claims that Simran was pregnant. Initial accounts from domestic help and locals suggested she was four months pregnant, but thorough medical examination found no evidence to support this.
As forensic teams continue their painstaking search for missing remains at the Brijeshwari Annexe site, the community mourns the profound loss while authorities work to complete their investigation into one of Indore's most tragic fire incidents in recent memory.
