Indore Police Arrest Man for Extorting Rs 40 Lakh in Land Dispute

In a significant development, the Dwarkapuri police in Indore have successfully apprehended a man accused of attempting to extort a substantial sum of money from a local businessman. The arrest was made on Saturday following a formal complaint that detailed threats and intimidation tactics linked to a high-value property dispute.

Details of the Extortion Case

According to official statements from Additional DCP Dishesh Agarwal, the police registered a case of criminal intimidation and extortion against the accused, identified as Prem Prajapati, a resident of Vidur Nagar. The complaint was filed by a businessman who alleged that Prajapati pressured him to pay Rs 40 lakh to settle an old dispute over a plot of land valued at approximately Rs 1.5 crore in the Dwarkapuri area.

The accused was promptly detained from his locality and taken to the police station for thorough questioning. During the initial investigation, it was revealed that Prajapati issued threats using the name of Kishore Hatkar, also known as Bhau, to intimidate the businessman, Saurabh Rathore. This tactic was allegedly employed to coerce the victim into complying with the extortion demands.

Evidence and Criminal History

As part of the ongoing probe, police examined digital evidence from Prajapati's device. Recordings saved under the names Kishore, Tabbu, and Rajendra were discovered and are currently being analyzed to determine their relevance to the case. This evidence could potentially strengthen the charges against the accused.

Further investigation into Prajapati's background uncovered a troubling criminal record. Police records indicate that he has approximately six criminal cases registered against him, spanning a range of serious offenses. These include charges related to land grabbing, cheating, assault, and even murder, highlighting a pattern of alleged criminal behavior.

Police Response and Legal Proceedings

The Dwarkapuri police have acted swiftly in this matter, emphasizing their commitment to tackling extortion and intimidation in the region. The case underscores the challenges faced by businesses and individuals in property disputes, where criminal elements may resort to threats for financial gain.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to gather more evidence and ensure that all aspects of the extortion plot are thoroughly examined. The arrest serves as a warning to others involved in similar activities, reinforcing the police's dedication to maintaining law and order in Indore.
