Indore Takes Major Steps to Streamline Traffic with E-Rickshaw Registration
In a significant move to organize urban mobility, the Indore traffic police have registered approximately 3,200 e-rickshaws out of an estimated 10,000 operating in the city. This registration initiative is part of a broader plan to allow these vehicles to ply on seven designated routes, aimed at streamlining their movement and reducing congestion.
Road Safety Committee Meeting Highlights
The details emerged during a district road safety committee meeting chaired by Collector Shivam Verma on Saturday. Officials provided comprehensive updates on ongoing efforts to enhance traffic management across Indore. A substantial portion of the discussion centered on regulating e-rickshaws and optimizing parking capacity to address the city's growing transportation challenges.
Registration and Identification Process
The registration process for e-rickshaws is still ongoing, with authorities encouraging more operators to come forward. Once finalized, registered e-rickshaws will be easily identifiable through sector-wise color coding and official stickers. This system is designed to improve monitoring and ensure compliance with the new route regulations.
Measures to Reduce Congestion
To tackle traffic bottlenecks, the committee discussed restricting the movement of buses, four-wheelers, and rickshaws in the narrow lanes of the Rajwada area. This measure aims to alleviate congestion in one of the city's busiest zones, enhancing safety and flow for pedestrians and vehicles alike.
Parking Management Directives
Collector Shivam Verma issued several key directives during the meeting:
- All parking lots must operate at full capacity to prevent vehicles from being parked on roads.
- Signage must be installed at all parking sites within the next eight to ten days.
- After a ten-day window for logistical arrangements, strict action will be taken against those parking in non-designated areas despite available parking lots.
Verma emphasized that the number of cranes for towing illegally parked vehicles will be increased to enforce these rules effectively.
Infrastructure Improvements and Safety Reviews
The committee identified seven major intersections for technical and structural enhancements:
- Tower Chauraha
- Navlakha
- Mhow Naka
- Agrasen Chauraha
- Kalani Nagar
- Palasia
- Gita Bhawan
These locations will undergo improvements to boost traffic efficiency and safety. Additionally, Verma instructed that no speed breakers be constructed without prior permission, ensuring a standardized approach to road modifications.
Progress on improving identified black spots—areas prone to accidents—was also reviewed during the meeting, highlighting the city's commitment to reducing road hazards and enhancing overall safety for commuters.
