Indore Police Arrest Trio for Assault on Mentally Ill Woman from Meerut

In a significant development, Indore police have arrested three men and sent them to judicial custody in connection with the brutal assault on a 45-year-old mentally ill woman from Meerut. The action was taken on Friday following widespread public outrage over the incident, which drew sharp reactions across various social media platforms.

Details of the Arrested Accused

ACP Vijay Choudhary confirmed that the accused have been identified as Shiva Rathore, 29, Prashant Solanki, 25, and Rajesh Arora, 44. All three are residents of Ganesh Nagar in Indore. Police took the trio into custody after a preliminary investigation clearly established their involvement in the assault case.

After completing all necessary legal formalities, the accused were produced before the court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. A case has been registered against those involved under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), with authorities warning against the dangers of rumors that can trigger vigilante violence.

Background of the Incident

The woman, who had been missing from her Meerut home for nearly 18 months, was found wandering in Jeet Nagar under Bhanwarkuan police station limits on February 6. Locals, suspecting her of child abduction based on unfounded rumors, brutally thrashed her and circulated a video of the assault online.

Police later verified that the woman had no criminal background and was indeed mentally unstable. The viral clip was eventually seen by her daughter, who immediately rushed to Indore upon recognizing her mother.

Police Investigation and Recovery

Acting on crucial inputs, police traced the woman to Khedighat in Barwaha after an intensive two-day search operation. ACP Vijay Choudhary emphasized that further investigation is currently underway to ascertain the complete sequence of events and determine whether any other individuals were involved in this disturbing incident.

The police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice in this case while cautioning the public against taking law into their own hands based on unverified information circulating on social media platforms.
