A two-year-old girl is fighting for her life on a ventilator after her mother allegedly forced her to drink acid in Rajasthan's Bhilwara district. The incident occurred on Friday, and the police have initiated an investigation, detaining the mother for questioning.
Incident Details
According to police officials, the mother, identified as 25-year-old Sita Devi, reportedly poured acid into the child's mouth at their residence in the Kareda area. The child, who has not been named, was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital before being transferred to a higher medical facility in Ajmer due to the severity of her injuries.
Police Investigation
Senior police officer Ravi Kumar said, "We received a complaint from the hospital regarding the incident. The mother has been detained, and we are questioning her to ascertain the motive behind this heinous act. The child's condition remains critical, and she is under constant medical supervision." The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including attempt to murder.
Medical Condition
Doctors attending to the infant stated that she has suffered severe internal injuries due to the acid ingestion. "The child is on ventilator support and her vital parameters are being closely monitored. The next 48 hours are crucial for her survival," said Dr. Manoj Sharma, a pediatrician at the hospital.
Local residents expressed shock and outrage over the incident. Social worker Anita Meena said, "It is unimaginable that a mother could do such a thing to her own child. We demand strict action against the accused."
The investigation is ongoing, and the police are collecting forensic evidence from the scene. The child's father, who works as a laborer, was not present at the time of the incident. He has been informed and is cooperating with the authorities.
