Police Uncover Inter-State Human Trafficking Network Following Tribal Girl's Harrowing Escape
In a significant breakthrough, Raipur police have dismantled an extensive inter-state human trafficking racket following a courageous complaint from a 17-year-old tribal girl who managed to escape forced marriage and sexual exploitation. The operation resulted in the arrest of five individuals, including two women and a juvenile, exposing a network that preyed on vulnerable victims across state lines.
Minor's Harrowing Journey from Job Promise to Forced Marriage
The investigation began when the 17-year-old survivor approached authorities on April 11, detailing a traumatic sequence of events that began when she ran away from home in November last year. According to police statements, the girl was initially lured with false promises of employment, only to be trafficked to a man in neighboring Madhya Pradesh for Rs 2.5 lakh.
"She was forcibly married to her buyer under coercion and subjected to sexual exploitation," revealed Raipur SSP Shashi Mohan Singh, describing the sensitive nature of the case. "The operation was handled with utmost care given the survivor's minor status."
Escape and Subsequent Re-victimization
After somehow managing to escape her captor's clutches and returning to Raigarh, the minor's freedom proved tragically short-lived. She reported that the traffickers tracked her down and pushed her into the flesh trade, demonstrating the persistent reach of the criminal network.
Police launched a comprehensive investigation based on her complaint, uncovering trafficking operations spanning Raigarh and multiple locations in Madhya Pradesh. The subsequent raids led to the arrest of four alleged trafficking agents—including two women—along with the buyer, while a juvenile was detained for involvement.
Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have taken strict legal action under multiple provisions including kidnapping, rape, human trafficking, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. All accused were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody as the investigation continues.
"Preliminary findings indicate the accused used personal contacts and false assurances to gain the trust of vulnerable individuals," police officials stated, adding that they are actively investigating whether additional girls or women fell victim to the same racket.
Survivor Support and Network Details
SSP Singh detailed how the girl was initially put up near a school ground after leaving home, where a friend—unaware of the trafficking operation—connected her to the racket. She was then transported to Madhya Pradesh under the guise of job opportunities, only to face forced marriage and exploitation.
The survivor, described as being in deep trauma, is currently receiving professional counseling and support services. Police emphasized their commitment to both justice for the perpetrators and comprehensive care for the victim as the case progresses through the legal system.
