Interstate drug supplier arrested from Punjab by Bilaspur police

Bilaspur police arrested 21-year-old Jashanpreet Singh, a resident of SBS Nagar, Punjab, on Thursday for allegedly running a supply chain-based drug trafficking network that supplied chitta (a synthetic drug) in Bilaspur district. The arrest followed a series of operations that began on June 29 with the apprehension of Mohit Kumar (34) from Mandi, who was caught with around 14 grams of chitta near Swarghat.

Investigation unravels network

According to Bilaspur Superintendent of Police Abhishek Dhiman, the police registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, against Mohit Kumar and launched an investigation. During the probe, officers examined digital, technical, and financial evidence, which revealed that the contraband was being supplied from Punjab. The investigation also identified Nishant Sharma (33), another resident of Mandi, as part of the drug peddling network. Sharma was arrested on July 1.

SP Dhiman stated, “During interrogation, both accused confessed to having procured chitta from Jashanpreet, who along with other individuals, was running a drug trafficking network. A police team was dispatched to Punjab and Jashanpreet was arrested from SBS Nagar on Thursday.”

Police aim to dismantle supply chain

The SP added that the investigation is ongoing and more individuals associated with the drug trafficking network are being identified. “The main aim of the police is to dismantle the supply chain based drug trafficking networks operating in the district,” he said. The police are also probing the broader network to identify other suppliers and consumers linked to the syndicate.

The arrests highlight the challenge of interstate drug trafficking in Himachal Pradesh, where synthetic drugs like chitta have become a growing concern. The Bilaspur police have intensified efforts to curb the supply of narcotics by targeting key suppliers and their distribution networks.
