Security footage has enabled the police to identify the masked robbers who critically injured a customer during a jewellery store robbery in Jagraon on Thursday evening before fleeing with valuables worth approximately ₹3.5 lakh. The heist took place at New Kanda Jewellers on Kacha Malak Road and lasted a mere 90 seconds.
Details of the Incident
According to the CCTV footage, three men entered the shop, with one brandishing a sword and another carrying what police suspect may have been a toy pistol. When a customer inside the store attempted to resist, one of the assailants struck him with the sword, causing severe head and body injuries. The victim collapsed inside the shop and remains in critical condition at a nearby hospital.
Loot and Police Response
The robbers then jumped the counter and looted cash along with gold and silver ornaments, including an estimated 1 kilogram of silver jewellery. Ludhiana Rural Senior Superintendent of Police Ankur Gupta confirmed that multiple raids are underway to apprehend the suspects, who are believed to be from a neighbouring district.
"We have identified the accused, and arrests are imminent," Gupta stated, declining to release names to protect the ongoing investigation. In the wake of the robbery, which has been treated as a murder attempt, the district police have intensified checkpoint inspections and increased patrols across commercial centres.
