Jaipur Murder: Police Recover Knife Used to Slit Woman's Throat
Jaipur: Knife recovered in Shastri Nagar murder case

In a significant breakthrough in a chilling murder case, the Jaipur police on Wednesday recovered the knife allegedly used to slit the throat of a 52-year-old woman. The victim's body was found dumped in a neighbour's yard in the Shastri Nagar area a day earlier.

Accused Confesses During Police Remand

The accused, identified as 36-year-old Jitendra Singh, was produced before a court on Tuesday and sent to three days of police remand. Deputy Commissioner of Police (north) Karan Sharma stated that the weapon was recovered after sustained interrogation. During questioning, Singh disclosed where he had concealed the knife after killing the victim, Babita.

"The accused led the police team to the recovery of the sharp weapon used to slit the woman's throat. The weapon has been seized and sent for forensic examination," DCP Sharma confirmed.

Sequence of Events and Attempt to Destroy Evidence

Police revealed that the alleged murder took place on Sunday evening at the accused's house in Subash Colony, which falls under the Shastri Nagar police station limits. The crime followed a dispute over money.

Initially, the accused claimed that a scuffle broke out during the dispute, leading him to push Babita against a wall. He stated she fell to the ground and started bleeding. However, on Wednesday, he admitted to the more gruesome detail: he slit her throat when he realized she had not died from the fall.

In a bid to cover his tracks, Singh kept the body inside his house for over 30 hours. During this period, he attempted to clean bloodstains and destroy other evidence. He finally dumped the body in a nearby property in the early hours of Tuesday.

Ongoing Investigation and Key Avenues

Investigators are now focused on reconstructing the precise sequence of events and verifying the motive. Officers are also examining a critical detail: whether the knife was procured specifically for the crime or was picked up during the altercation.

The probe continues to analyse multiple streams of evidence, including:

  • CCTV footage from the vicinity.
  • Call detail records of those involved.
  • Digital evidence, such as the victim's mobile phone. Police noted the phone was formatted in an apparent attempt to erase links between the accused and the victim.

Police stated that pending recoveries related to the case are also being completed as part of the thorough investigation.
