Jaipur Authorities Dig on Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Search of Boy's Remains
In a chilling case that has resurfaced after six years, authorities in Jaipur are straining every resource to locate the body of a four-year-old boy who was allegedly murdered by his relatives and buried on land that now forms part of the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway. The search has involved extensive excavation efforts, highlighting the tragic intersection of a family feud and modern infrastructure development.
Arrests Made in 2020 Missing Person Case
Police have identified the accused as Anil Bairwa, 25, and his sister Krishna, 27, both relatives of the victim, Prince, also known as Tillu. The two were arrested two weeks ago and sent to judicial custody on Thursday, marking a significant breakthrough in a case that had remained unresolved since Prince went missing in 2020.
Investigators revealed that the Bairwa family and Prince's family had been embroiled in a prolonged dispute, which is suspected to be the motive behind the killing. "Primary probe showed that Krishna attacked Prince with a sharp object, and the duo later disposed of his body by burying it in a secluded field on the outskirts of their village," an official stated, underscoring the brutality of the alleged crime.
Expressway Construction Complicates Search
Over the past six years, the construction of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway has transformed the once-secluded burial site, making the recovery of the body exceptionally challenging for investigators. "The expressway was constructed on the same land, making the process of discovering the body difficult," the official added, noting that this has necessitated a meticulous and high-tech search operation.
Authorities have been utilizing a Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) machine to identify potential locations where the boy's remains might be found. Based on GPR assessments and statements from the suspects, excavation work began on earmarked stretches of the expressway from March 1, but so far, it has not yielded success.
Ongoing Excavation and Traffic Impact
The search operation has been underway for more than 12 days, with police and local authorities, in collaboration with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), leading the efforts. "We will begin the excavation work again in two days. There are about three different possible stretches where we suspect the remains could be found," an official explained, indicating that the investigation is far from over.
While the excavation was halted temporarily, police have remained deployed at the site round the clock. The work has impacted traffic on a short distance of the expressway, but authorities are prioritizing the recovery of the mortal remains to bring closure to this harrowing case.
Initially treated as a missing person case, the investigation turned into a murder probe after renewed scrutiny and developments. Police are now focused on recovering the body to solidify the case against the accused, who are currently in custody.
