A tragic pre-dawn accident on National Highway 89 in Rajasthan's Nagaur district claimed the lives of two young performers and left eight others injured on Wednesday. The victims were en route to a wedding function when their car overturned, leading to fatal consequences.
Details of the Fatal Crash
The accident occurred at around 4 am on the Ajmer-Bikaner highway, specifically between Gudda and Tehla villages under the jurisdiction of the Thanwla police station. The car, travelling from Jaipur towards Balotara, went out of control and overturned violently, suffering severe damage in the process.
The deceased have been identified as Aman, aged 21, and Dev, aged 22. Preliminary investigations by the police point towards two primary factors that may have led to the disaster. "There are two possibilities; either the driver dozed off, or visibility may have been impeded due to intense fog," stated Thanwla Station House Officer (SHO) Ashok Chaudhary. He emphasized the severity of the crash, which caused the vehicle to overturn on the road.
Immediate Aftermath and Rescue Efforts
The crash site descended into chaos following the incident. Alerted by the noise, residents from nearby villages rushed to the scene and played a crucial role in the initial rescue. They managed to pull the injured individuals from the wrecked vehicle.
All eight injured persons were first taken to a hospital in Nagaur for primary treatment. Given the seriousness of their conditions, they were subsequently referred to the JLN Hospital in Ajmer for advanced medical care. Police personnel arrived promptly upon receiving information, conducted an inspection of the site, and had the damaged vehicle removed to the police station for further examination.
Ongoing Police Investigation
The Thanwla police have launched a detailed investigation into the circumstances that led to the fatal accident. An official involved stated that they are "speaking to locals about the matter and also trying to retrieve the CCTV footage" from the vicinity. Authorities have not ruled out the role of dense fog, a common hazard during winter mornings in the region, as a contributing factor. The investigation aims to conclusively determine the cause and compile a final report.
This incident has once again highlighted the dangers of night and early morning travel on highways, especially during winter when fog can drastically reduce visibility.
