Jaipur BTech Student's Tragic Death Sparks Police Probe into Online Betting Harassment
In a heartbreaking incident from Jaipur, the family of an 18-year-old BTech student has come forward with shocking allegations linking his death to harassment by online betting operators. The young student, identified as Abhishek Naval, tragically passed away on January 2 after allegedly consuming poison, with his family now pointing fingers at a group of individuals they claim drove him to this desperate act.
Details of the Tragic Incident
According to police reports, Abhishek Naval was a first-year BTech student at an engineering college in Kookas. His health took a sudden and severe turn for the worse on the morning of January 2 at his home in the Jaisinghpura Khor police station area. Family members recounted that he collapsed after feeling dizzy and was immediately rushed to SMS Hospital for emergency medical attention.
Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Abhishek succumbed to his condition around 2:30 PM on the same day. Doctors at the hospital later informed the grieving family that the cause of death was poisoning, confirming the initial suspicions that he had ingested a toxic substance.
Family's Allegations and FIR Filing
The family's anguish turned into action when Abhishek's uncle filed a formal First Information Report (FIR) on February 10. In the complaint, they detailed a harrowing pattern of harassment and extortion allegedly perpetrated by four men who they claim forced Abhishek into online betting activities.
The FIR outlines serious accusations:
- The accused allegedly subjected Abhishek to repeated threats and illegal recovery tactics.
- They pressured him to bring valuable items from home, including jewellery, cash, and property documents.
- The harassers imposed daily penalties ranging from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000, creating immense financial and psychological pressure.
The financial toll was staggering. According to the complaint, the accused extorted approximately Rs 1.1 lakh in cash, an additional Rs 1.35 lakh that was meant for college fees, and original plot documents valued at about Rs 6 lakh. This brings the total alleged extortion to over Rs 8 lakh, a substantial amount that highlights the severity of the situation.

Following the filing of the FIR, Jaipur police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the matter. Authorities have begun examining the deceased student's mobile phone and digital trail starting from Saturday, aiming to identify and apprehend those allegedly responsible for the harassment.
The police are treating this case with utmost seriousness, recognizing the potential implications of online betting operations targeting vulnerable young individuals. The investigation seeks to uncover the full extent of the alleged criminal activities and bring justice to the grieving family.
