In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, a 30-year-old woman was brutally stabbed to death on a street in Jaipur's Shastri Nagar area on Thursday evening. The horrific attack, which occurred in broad daylight, was allegedly carried out by her own brother-in-law.
Victim Identified as Widow Supporting Two Children
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Karan Sharma identified the victim as Poonam Dhanka, a widow who worked tirelessly as domestic help to support her family. "Her husband died a few days ago. She lived with her two children and earned a living by washing dishes," Sharma revealed, painting a picture of a woman struggling against difficult circumstances.
Fatal Attack on Nehru Nagar Road
According to Additional DCP (North) Bajrang Singh, the tragedy unfolded when Dhanka was walking on Nehru Nagar Road. Her brother-in-law, identified as Anil Kumar, intercepted her and launched a vicious attack, stabbing her multiple times. "She collapsed on the road, bleeding profusely, and the accused fled the scene," Singh stated, describing the brutal nature of the assault.
Bystanders who witnessed the horrific incident immediately rushed Dhanka to Kanwatia Hospital, but medical professionals declared her brought dead upon arrival, highlighting the severity of her injuries.
Marriage Pressure Led to Fatal Confrontation
Preliminary investigations have revealed a disturbing motive behind the attack. Police officials disclosed that Anil Kumar had been pressuring Dhanka to marry him following her husband's recent death. "The accused had repeatedly forced her to agree to marriage, but she refused on several occasions," DCP Sharma explained.
The police investigation indicates that the two had engaged in frequent arguments over this matter, and evidence suggests Kumar came prepared on Thursday with the specific intention to kill her when she refused his advances yet again.

Law enforcement authorities have cordoned off the crime scene and are meticulously examining the escape route used by the perpetrator. "We have received credible information on the suspect's whereabouts and will arrest him soon," assured Additional DCP Singh, indicating that the investigation is progressing rapidly.

"Her husband died, and Poonam has been working hard to support her children.
