Jaipur's traffic authorities have issued a stern warning to residents and visitors, forecasting severe road congestion on New Year's Day. The anticipated rush is expected to be particularly heavy on routes leading to the city's popular tourist destinations and religious sites.
Extensive Traffic Management Plan Unveiled
To tackle the expected gridlock, the police commissionerate has formulated a comprehensive traffic management strategy. Deputy Commissioner of Traffic, Sumeet Meharda, revealed the details on Wednesday. He highlighted a notable shift in tourist patterns this winter season, with an increasing number of visitors from other Indian states flocking to revered temples like Moti Doongri, Galta-ji Dham, Khole Ke Hanuman-ji, and Govind Dev-ji Temple.
"Since many of these religious sites are located away from conventional tourist circuits, we have mobilized additional manpower from other districts and local police stations to manage the crowd," stated Meharda. The department has implemented several proactive measures, including dynamic one-way systems and temporary no-entry zones on specific stretches, to ensure vehicular movement remains as smooth as possible.
Strict Enforcement and Route Diversions
In a move to ensure discipline on the roads, all traffic personnel have been directed to issue challans for any violations. The focus will be squarely on drunken driving, illegal parking, and riding or driving without helmets and seat belts.
The traffic police have also procured electronic display boards to be installed across the city. These boards will provide real-time updates on traffic conditions and broadcast messages promoting safe driving practices.
Key Route Changes and Restrictions
Specific route alterations have been put in place to manage the flow. Only traffic heading towards Amer Road will be permitted from Badi Choupar on Hawa Mahal Road. Additionally, the road leading from Amer Fort to Delhi Road has been temporarily converted into a one-way. Vehicles coming from Delhi Road must now take a detour via Dhobi Ghat Circle or Transport Nagar to enter Jaipur city.
Further restrictions are in effect to handle the rush at the famous Moti Doongri Temple. Traffic movement between Trimurti Circle and JDA Circle on JLN Marg will be prohibited from 5 am to 9 pm. In another significant move, vehicles have been banned entirely from entering the City Palace compound.
With these extensive preparations, the Jaipur Traffic Police aim to mitigate chaos and ensure a safer New Year celebration for everyone on the road.
