Jaisalmer Family Safely Returns from UAE After Tense Stranding Amid Regional Conflict
A local family from Jaisalmer has safely returned home on Tuesday evening after being stranded in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to sudden airspace closures triggered by missile and drone attacks linked to the escalating Iran–America–Israel conflict. The incident underscores the broader regional tensions affecting thousands of Indian expatriates in West Asia.
Sudden Disruption and Anxious Wait in Dubai
Ashish Vyas, a resident of Jaisalmer who has lived in Dubai for the past decade, arrived home with his wife and two children following a difficult and uncertain journey. Vyas, an engineer working with Emirates airline, described how the situation in Dubai changed abruptly on the day of the attacks. Alert sirens, security advisories, and sudden flight cancellations created widespread anxiety among residents, as reports of explosions emerged from major UAE cities, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
These incidents occurred after waves of drones and ballistic missiles were reportedly launched from Iran's side, prompting precautionary measures such as temporary airport shutdowns. This left thousands of travelers stranded, including many Indian nationals. Vyas noted that his wife Ipsita, also an engineer employed with an Arab airline, had long planned a visit to India, but escalating regional tensions led to their flight being cancelled.
Order Amid Fear and a Challenging Journey Home
Vyas emphasized that authorities in the UAE maintained order and regularly issued official updates during the crisis. "The ground situation was not as chaotic as portrayed on social media, but there was definitely fear," he said. When airspace to India briefly reopened, Vyas quickly booked tickets, embarking on a multi-leg journey from Dubai to Bengaluru, then onward to Mumbai, and finally to Jaisalmer.
He described the trip as particularly challenging due to limited seat availability and constantly changing flight schedules, which added to the stress of the situation. Upon arrival in Jaisalmer, anxious family members welcomed them with immense relief, marking the end of a harrowing experience.
Gradual Return to Normalcy and Ongoing Concerns
While Vyas reported that normalcy is gradually returning in Dubai, he highlighted that many Indians remain stranded due to recurring airspace restrictions imposed as a result of the ongoing regional conflict.
