In the border city of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, law enforcement has apprehended a thief whose extraordinary methods have left both investigators and the public astounded. The accused not only engaged in theft but also spent extended periods inside targeted residences, calmly consuming food and beverages before departing.
A Nationwide Sensation: Lipstick Messages and Defiant Warnings
Approximately two months ago, he executed a theft that captured national attention. At the home of an Assistant Engineer in Jaisalmer, he used lipstick to inscribe a sarcastic note on the wall: “If you keep liquor, at least keep chips too.” Additionally, he left behind warnings such as “Don’t go to the police station,” blatantly challenging authorities.
Courtroom Confessions and Criminal Expertise
What has further surprised police is his behavior during court appearances. Whenever presented before a judge, he would openly admit to the crimes without hesitation, stating, “I committed the theft.” This pattern has garnered widespread focus, with more discussion centered on his strange style than the offenses themselves.
The individual has been identified as 39-year-old Tejaram Suthar, a resident of the Babar Magra area in Jaisalmer. Detained by Kotwali police from Jodhpur, he is a habitual offender with more than 18 criminal cases registered against him across various police stations. Authorities describe him as a professional criminal who resumes theft activities shortly after release from jail.
Detailed Account of the January Incident
The case traces back to January 31, when a theft occurred at the vacant residence of Assistant Engineer Sohan Jangid in IGNP Colony, Jaisalmer. Tejaram stole items including a laptop and television, and he also consumed liquor found in the house. Before exiting, he picked up a lipstick and wrote messages on the wall, such as: “Don’t go to the police, it will waste your time.” He even employed a pseudonym, “Bihari Babu,” to mislead investigators.
Police indicate that Tejaram is highly knowledgeable about legal strategies. He deliberately confesses in court to avoid police remand and secure direct transfer to jail. Upon release, he promptly plans subsequent thefts. Tracking him proved challenging due to his avoidance of mobile phones and digital devices.
Arrest and Investigation Insights
Following the January event, authorities had been actively searching for him. Based on informant tips and technical surveillance, Kotwali police located him in Jodhpur and took him into custody. A stolen laptop has been recovered from his possession. Kotwali Police Station Officer Surjaram noted that the accused’s modus operandi was exceptionally unusual—he would spend hours inside homes, eat food from refrigerators, relax, and then leave with valuables. Police are currently investigating whether he acted alone or was part of a broader network.

Despite having been incarcerated 18 times, his conduct remains unchanged. However, this arrest reaffirms that regardless of how cunning a criminal may be, they cannot evade the law indefinitely. The case underscores the importance of diligent police work and community vigilance in combating crime.
