Major Drug Bust in Jammu: Police Seize Heroin Valued at Rs 1.5 Crore
In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Jammu Police apprehended a drug peddler and confiscated a substantial quantity of heroin, estimated to be worth approximately Rs 1.5 crore in the international market. The operation, which took place on Saturday, also led to the recovery of Rs 1.5 lakh in cash, a mobile phone, and a weighing machine from the suspect.
Naka Operation Leads to Arrest at Tutray Chowk
A police naka team, under the leadership of PSI Rajan Choudhary, was strategically deployed at Tutray Chowk on Ring Road. Around 7:40 PM, officers spotted the suspect, who attempted to flee upon noticing the police presence. However, the team acted swiftly and managed to capture him after a brief pursuit.
The accused has been identified as Harpal Singh, a resident of Kathua district. His arrest marks a crucial step in disrupting local drug supply chains, as authorities continue to combat the menace of substance abuse in the region.
Seizure Details and Legal Proceedings
During the arrest, police seized around 262 grams of heroin, a highly addictive and illegal substance. The estimated street value of this seizure underscores the scale of the operation and its potential impact on curbing drug trafficking activities.
In addition to the narcotics, officers recovered Rs 1.5 lakh in cash, which is believed to be proceeds from illicit drug sales, along with a cellphone and a weighing machine used in the peddling operations.
Following the arrest, a formal case has been registered under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Miran Sahib Police Station. This legal framework ensures that the accused faces severe penalties if convicted, reflecting the seriousness of drug-related offenses.

Police officials have emphasized that further investigation is actively underway to unearth the forward and backward linkages of the drug nexus. This includes identifying suppliers, distributors, and other individuals involved in the network to dismantle it comprehensively.
