Jamshedpur: In a dramatic operation, Jamshedpur police arrested two notorious criminals after a chain-snatching incident in Telco led to a chase, seizure, and an encounter during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

Police Response and Interception

Senior Superintendent of Police Piyush Pandey stated that police received information about two men on a black motorcycle with a fake registration number fleeing towards Sidhgora after snatching a chain. A special raiding team under Sidhgora officer-in-charge Saiz Ahmad initiated checks and raids. Subsequently, police intercepted the motorcycle near Surya Mandir. The suspects attempted to escape, and one allegedly tried to fire at the team, but both were overpowered.

Identification and Confessions

The arrested individuals were identified as Harpal Singh alias Gabru, 28, and Manjit Singh, 29, alias Visu, residents of Golmuri and Sidhgora police station areas. During questioning, they allegedly confessed to multiple chain-snatching incidents across the district over recent months, using stolen motorcycles with fake number plates.

Recovery of Stolen Property

Based on their statements, police took Gabru to Lamba Maidan near Birsa Munda Town Hall to recover a stolen gold chain. Police seized the chain, a number plate, pepper spray, and a screwdriver.

Encounter and Injuries

While returning after the seizure, Gabru allegedly attacked Sub-Inspector Sushant Kumar, snatched his service pistol, and fired at police. Police retaliated in self-defence, injuring Gabru in the leg. Kumar sustained minor injuries in the scuffle.

Medical Care and Legal Action

Gabru was admitted to MGM Hospital for treatment. Police registered two First Information Reports (FIRs) and recovered a country-made automatic pistol, one live 7.65 mm cartridge, a magazine, the stolen motorcycle, and other incriminating materials.
