Two Men Arrested in Jamshedpur for Smuggling 50 kg Marijuana on NH-33
In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the East Singhbhum district police arrested two individuals on Sunday late evening for allegedly smuggling 50 kilograms of marijuana. The arrest occurred on National Highway 33, where the contraband was discovered concealed within a car during a routine vehicle inspection.
Details of the Seizure and Arrest
The narcotics were meticulously packed into 25 separate packets, each weighing 2 kilograms, indicating a well-organized smuggling operation. According to police reports, the marijuana was being transported from Odisha into Bihar, with plans to distribute it across multiple districts upon arrival.
Superintendent of Police (Rural) Rishabha Garg addressed the media on Monday, confirming that the seizure took place under the jurisdiction of the Baharagora police station. "The narcotics were recovered during a proactive vehicle checking drive aimed at curbing illegal activities on the highway," stated Garg.
Identification of the Accused
The two men apprehended in the vehicle have been identified as Bhim Yadav, aged 32, and Raj Kumar Pal. Yadav is a resident of the Sonari police station area in Jamshedpur, while Pal hails from the Bhojpur district in Bihar. Both individuals have been formally charged and are currently in judicial custody.
"They have been sent to jail and booked under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act," emphasized SP Garg, highlighting the serious legal implications of their alleged crimes.
Investigation and Further Developments
During interrogation, the accused revealed that they had collected the marijuana consignment from Barakul in Chilika, Odisha. Their intended route involved crossing into Bihar, where they planned to sell the drugs to pre-arranged buyers. This revelation has provided crucial leads for the ongoing investigation.
SP Garg added, "We have obtained significant clues about the masterminds behind this smuggling ring. A thorough probe is currently underway to identify and apprehend these key figures, ensuring that all involved parties face justice."
The police are intensifying their efforts to dismantle the entire network associated with this case, focusing on both the supply chain from Odisha and the distribution channels in Bihar. This arrest underscores the authorities' commitment to combating drug trafficking in the region.
